FAQ

  • How long are sessions?

Greenwood Psychology offers full 60-minute sessions. Sometimes, depending on need, we can offer 90-minute sessions. This depends on clinical need, preferences, and the treatment plan.

    Our rates are:

    $235 per 60-minute session

    $350 per 90-minute session

  • How often do I need to come in?

While session frequency may vary depending on individual preferences, availability, and the nature of treatment, research typically suggests that weekly or biweekly sessions yield the best results, as this keeps up the “momentum” of therapy. Ultimately, session frequency will depend on your goals and will be discussed early in therapy.

  • Do you offer virtual therapy?

Yes! Greenwood Psychology offers both virtual and in-person sessions.

  • What can I expect during my first session?

An intake session is the starting point of therapy. It usually involves completing self-report measures to establish a baseline for your symptoms and mood, discussing the concerns that brought you in, and participating in a clinical interview to better understand your background and experiences. By the end of the intake process, your psychologist will share a working understanding (called a ‘case conceptualization’) of what may be contributing to your challenges. Together, you’ll then develop a treatment plan tailored to your goals. This process typically takes 2–3 sessions.

  • Do you assign "homework"?

Yes, most of the time. your Psychologist will often assign brief, practical exercises between sessions, especially when using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). Think of it like building muscle, changing a habit, or doing physiotherapy: therapy works best with consistent practice, and the effort usually decreases as symptoms improve. The goal isn’t to add stress or busywork, but to help you apply what we discuss in therapy to your everyday life. That way, progress continues between sessions, not just during them.

Research suggests that effort made between sessions results in faster and longer-term improvement, often reducing the overall number of sessions required to meet your goals.

  • Do you offer Sliding Scale rates?

Yes! Sliding scale sessions are offered at a reduced rate to make therapy more accessible for those who might otherwise be unable to afford it. These sessions are typically reserved for individuals with depleted benefits, students, or those experiencing acute symptoms who could benefit from a focused treatment plan. Due to high demand, sliding scale sessions may have a waitlist. Please contact us to inquire about current availability.
