Therapy for High-Pressure Professionals
Many of my clients are those who serve high-pressure occupational roles that can impact their mental health.
Examples of professionals I see as clients are:
Physicians, paramedics, and nurses
Veterinarians and Veterinary Technicians
Crown Prosecutors
Therapists (eg. Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Speech Language Pathologists)
Researchers and Academics
Public Officials
In these roles, it can often be difficult to tell where professional vigilance ends and anxiety or compulsive overthinking begins.
Occupational Stress might look like:
Intrusive, recurrent fear of having caused harm through a mistake, omission, or judgment call, even when procedures were followed.
Moral or responsibility-based obsessions (e.g., “If I don’t think this through perfectly, I’m a bad professional.”)
Excessive reassurance-seeking from supervisors, coworkers, or documentation.
Physical panic or anxiety symptoms (racing heart, shortness of breath, dizziness, GI distress)
Feeling betrayed by systems, leaders, or policies that conflict with personal values
Emotional numbness, cynicism, or withdrawal from others
Erosion of meaning, purpose, or identity tied to work
