Perinatal Anxiety
Parenting and pregnancy can be one of the most meaningful and demanding experiences in life.
Amidst the love and joy, many parents may also experience relentless “what ifs,” intrusive thoughts, guilt, and worry that can feel disruptive, distressing, or like “something is wrong”.
Therapy can help untangle where being a vigilant, responsible parent ends and anxiety begins, so that you can feel more present with you family.
Common symptoms of
perinatal anxiety may include:
Distressing, intrusive thoughts or images about something bad happening to your child, or about you causing harm to your child
Guilt or self-criticism about “not doing enough” or not being the kind of parent you imagined you’d be.
Feeling overwhelmed or anxious by the sheer volume of information, advice, and expectations around parenting.
Distressing and persistent anxiety about pregnancy and childbirth (i.e. tokophobia)
